Frequently asked questions.
Why do I still get cloudy, sometimes crusty white scale on my shower door or glasses even after my water has been softened?
When you soften your water, the water softener takes out the cations (lime, calcium, magnesium and iron) and they get replaced with sodium ions/sodium chloride (SALT). The sodium goes through the brine and the chloride goes to the drain. (We use salt because it is the cheapest form of sodium). The white cloudy scale you are sometimes left with is the sodium by-product after the water is softened.
How much salt does my brine tank need?
Brine tanks vary in size, but to fill adequately, you will need between 6-8 (40lb) bags. The brine tank does NOT need to be filled to the top to function properly.
How often should I fill my brine tank?
Adding too much salt to your water quality softener can cause salt “bridging,” or a buildup and solidification of regenerant. This buildup can prevent your system from regenerating properly. Only add additional salt when you see 1”-2” of water over the salt at the bottom. DO NOT keep adding salt on top of salt.
Why does my water softener regenerate in the middle of the night?
We set your water softener to regenerate at 2am so that you are NOT using water at that time. During the regeneration process, the water is raw, not softened.
